About the Purple Palace
This orphanage is located in the red light district of Tijuana, housing over 90 boys and girls. This ministry takes in street children and children of prostitutes and drug addicts, giving them an opportunity to be educated and to learn about the love of Christ.
Special Needs
WE ARE MOVING.... The owner of the Purple Palace is wanting us to move. We recently found out that the pressure is even more on getting us out earlier than May 2010 because the Tijuana Municpal Govenment is going to move their offices to our building! We asked for help from the Mayor's office, but now we know why we didn't get an answer. So much for the leaders of Tijuana wanting to help us hellp the orphaned and abused. There is so many piles of construction trash, now our kids have only a small area to play. The constuction workers are working through the night with full on construction noise. We could be upset, but we, with the help of the Lord, are being gracious and patient.
We were telling you about the building that used to be the YWAM building, but there were some details with fire safety that were not so good and it is smaller than we really needed. We also didn't have enough for the down payment to buy it. Then we recently found an old resort hotel for rent that is almost the same rent as the Purple Palace and the contract is for 7 years! It is a bigger area than the Purple Palace! It is located on a cliff overlooking the ocean in the western part of Tijuana called Las Playas. It is really beautiful. It has a large indoor swimming pool and large area for the kids to play! It has 12 bathrooms, a computer room and 8 large rooms for the children with 5 bunks in each. There is enough area to store and use all of the fixtures of the Purple Palace down to ......every screw that you and so many others gave to the Purple Palace. We are taking everything since the owner will be demolishing everything inside to make way for offices. This is sooo sad! THe owner wants us do be out as soon as possible so we would love to have your help and expertise in doing this.
Volunteer Opportunities:
- We need engineers/architect to assess the building especially by the cliff.
- Repair the bathrooms: need plummers to make sure everything is usable, put in faucets, 4 shower stalls(that we already have thanks to a wonderful donor.
- Make a ramada with concrete floor for the washing machines and dryers and install pipes and drainage and clothesline.
- Make about 4 interior walls and install doors and windows.
- Clean out 2 small terrace areas and lay a brick floor.
- Build a living area overlooking the ocean with cement floor of about 20'x36' with that great entrance door we have and those beautiful entrance windows and the windows that were there before we were in the Purple Palace. We can rehang the chandelier there too (we can make the ceiling high enough for that. Plus possibly a porch at the entrance.
- Repair the roof.
- Paint outside so our director,Francelia and the director of our boys home, Efrain, can have her wedding there ASAP!
- Check the electric wiring and install some more lights
- Repair some wooden stairs
- Make a balconey from some of the entryway iron bannisters
- Clean windows, floors, the pool, the kitchen, all the rooms
- Paint the kids' rooms and they will want to pick the colors for their room
- Install the steel fence (that used to guard our bikes ) to protect the children from falling down the cliff or maybe you have other ideas on this.
- Redo the protection wiring on the walls facing the street
- Put the gorgeous gate that was the entrance to the computer room at the entrance of our new home
- Have our wonderful computer guys set up the computer room. In the past it was already used as a computer room
- Then when it is ready for at least the kids to live there safely, we could use a lot of muscles and trucks to move the furniture to the new home.
